1. About Self Love

What is self-love, then? Is it something you can buy in a beauty makeover or a new set of clothing? Can you get more of it by reading something inspirational? Or, can a new relationship make you love yourself more? The answer to all of these questions is No! Although they feel good and are gratifying, you can’t grow in self-love through these types of activities. Since self-love is not simply a state of feeling good. Although narcissism is defined as an excessive interest in its appearance and egoism, self-control is a necessary feature to maintain a healthy mood.

Self-absorption, not self-love, can promote balance, increasing positivity and contentment. Self-love has often been seen as a moral flaw, akin to vanity and selfishness. The Merriam-Webster dictionary later describes self-love as to “love of self” or “regard for one’s own happiness or advantage”. Synonyms of this concept are amour propre, conceit, conceitedness, egotism, and many more. However, throughout the centuries this definition has adopted a more positive connotation through self-love protests, the Hippie era, the new age feminist movement as well as the increase in mental health awareness that promotes self-love.

They defined self-love as being “beliefs about oneself (self-based self-esteem) and beliefs about how other people regard oneself (other-based self-esteem)”. It concluded that “depression, hopelessness, and low self-esteem are implications of vulnerability factors for suicide ideation” and that “these findings suggest that even in the context of depression and hopelessness, low self-esteem may add to the risk for suicide ideation”.

2. Self Love psychology

Self-love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. … People who have more self-love tend to know what they think, feel and want. They are mindful of who they are and act on this knowledge, rather than on what others want for them.

Self-love is a popular term today that gets tossed around in normal conversation. “You have to love yourself more.” “Why don’t you love yourself?” “If you only loved yourself, this wouldn’t have happened to you.” “You can’t love another person until you love yourself first.” These are just a few of the self-love directives that we give or get to suggest a way to more living fulfillment. Self-love is important to living well. It influences who you pick for a mate, the image you project at work, and how you cope with the problems in your life. It is so important to your welfare that I want you to know how to bring more of it into your life.

3. Self Love techniques

  • Create a self-love ritual: Turn off the TV and unplug from social media for 15 minutes to get centered while self-pampering. My favorite way to do this is to moisturize my skin with intention.
  • Build a precious community: As much as we would like to think we can, we can’t do everything ourselves. You need the support and love from people around you to stay motivated and on track. Positive energy is contagious, so whether you’re building a network or planning to go to a fun event, it’s always important to have a community you value around you regularly.
  • Make a “What’s Working for Me” list: You always hear that to love someone else you must first learn to love yourself. But In order to really love yourself sometimes, you have to recognize all the love you have around you.
  • Know that your body is a loving vessel: Treating your body like a loving vessel will not only boost your self-love but also your energy. Be intentional about what you put into your body, not only because you want to look good but because you want to feel good.
  • Clean out your closet: This may be more therapeutic than you initially think. Cleaning out your closet will help you not only clean your room up a bit but will positively affect your mind.
  • No more comparisons: We’ve all done it. Browsed through social media only to see our favorite media personalities in the middle of a photo shoot for their new books, just after they had awesome shopping sprees and right before the post about their engagements.

  • Explore your spirituality: Faith is the foundation for self-love, no matter what you believe. Believing in something opens up your soul to the beauty of belief and trust. It will build your intuition and help you make decisions based on your gut.
  • Do something you’re good at: If this isn’t the ultimate self-esteem booster, I don’t know what is! Self-esteem and self-love often go hand in hand, and participating in a hobby you’re good at will not only boost your endorphins but will bring out the best version of you.
  • Find your happy place: Think of a place that makes it simple to just be. That means being able to sit quietly and embrace the here and now. Not thinking about what’s due at work or what bills need to be paid, you owe this happy place to yourself.
  • Build your letting go muscle: We’re constantly holding on to things in our past, and it can tend to weigh heavy on our souls and even give us low self-esteem. The more blocks we clear, the more we can really live big in the area of self-love.
